In my 20+ years of an exciting career, working with entertainment creative studios + agencies from around the world, I’ve found a common pain point for most groups:
Not enough INBOUND opportunities… from people who really want to work with them and are willing to award based on their amazing body of work. In other words, pipelines that are full of fluff or simply never enough.
How do we deal with diminishing budgets — or an ocean full of all manner of specialized agencies + creative studios + turnkey production partners, making great stuff? How do we break through the multitudes of creative managers working with companies they already trust? How do we keep track of the revolving doors at the brands we want to work with? How do we let the world know who we are + what we do + how we delight?
Why do we suck at our own marketing + branding + social strategy? Why isn’t the entire company involved in developing strong relationships? Why is there internal sabotage + resentment + resistance? Why is failure pinned to the doers? Where are our processes? Why don’t our beloved co-workers know what we do? Why are we still using the word vendor? Why is there no ongoing education? Why are we still faxing?!! How do we optimize and automate the obvious? Why do we keep doing the same old same old? Why are we still pitching?
As you can see, I can go on and on… These, and more, are the issue trees many creative companies are facing every day.
I believe it is all about ALIGNMENT… or lack thereof! Customer Experience (CX) is the new battleground and I have the scars to prove it.
Aligning all aspects of the customer experience, from the very first touchpoint to the consistent cultivation of relationships, will lead to growth… guaranteed! But how long will that take? Most companies hire talent based on their portfolios while others hire based on their book of clients… but in a world of guns for hire, that doesn’t always translate to business and traction may take a while. Understanding cultivation periods and award ratios is key to forecasting and most companies are still looking at their crystal ball to pull numbers out of thin air, not actual data.
I’ve been in the trenches… executive producing + leading business development for some of the top studios in our industry at a rate of millions of dollars and I realized it was time to switch my model.
